“Today I woke up feeling unready for the new year. I have such high hopes, but such fear as well. What if once again I can’t keep all these resolutions? What if nothing is different?”
We’ll be talking throughout 2009 about how to keep growing into the parent — and the person — you want to be.
We’ll work on making our discipline more effective so our home is more peaceful, noticing what triggers us with our kids, and releasing the hold that stress has on our lives. I’ll also be asking you to email me with your specific concerns to make sure we address them.
But today I want to reassure you that all change comes one step at a time. Life is simply the slow accumulation of moments, and each moment we have a chance to change directions. Before we know it, we’re in a whole new landscape.
Even if we change our reaction to only a few moments today, we’ll find ourselves heading in a new direction.
Your assignment today is to find a place to write. If you already have a journal, you’re done. If not, either open one on your computer, or find a notebook you can write in. Write down one thing you want to be different in your life this year — the miracle you are creating. (You can add more as we go along.)
Then, find ways to have a really good day, by being good to yourself and everyone around you. Just take it one step at a time. On Monday, we’ll take the next step.
May your weekend be filled with blessings, large and small.
